Bobby’s Lot A Happy One
Media Maelstrom Helps Prompt Book Reprint
Eight TV appearances, 25-plus radio interviews, six signing sessions, a host of newspaper articles, three dinners, a trip to his old school and even a visit to the printers to see the first copy come off the press……Bobby Gould hasn’t been quiet on the promotional tour for his new autobiography.
And the former Wolves striker might be in for more of the same – because 24 Carat Gould is booked in for a New Year reprint.
“I always said that the reaction of readers was more important to me than the financial side, so I’m absolutely delighted with the response,” he said.
“Hearing people say they have enjoyed my story means more than what I’m making from the project.
“I’ve been blessed with a very good life in football and, at the age of 64, was keen to share all my experiences.
“I was very touched when my son and grandson in New Zealand said what a terrific read they thought it was. And I spoke yesterday to two ladies at an awards lunch in Bristol who said they were going straight out to Waterstone’s to buy it.
“Even my daily run down here in Portishead has become an hour rather than 45 minutes because the book has sold well in a couple of local shops and people are stopping me to say they have enjoyed it.
“I was over in Cardiff for a radio interview this week and of course it has been a very, very busy time. But it has also been great fun.”
Gould, who had two prolific spells at Wolves in the 1970s, was recently back at Molineux to cover the victory over Manchester City in his role as a talkSPORT pundit.
And he had a red-letter day when invited to London’s Park Lane Hilton Hotel to receive a medal to commemorate his winning of the FA Cup with Wimbledon in 1988.
Only in relatively recent times have managers been presented with medals, so he and the likes of Frank O’Farrell, Joe Royle, John Sillett, Colin Harvey and the former Wolves duo of Tommy Docherty and Jimmy Melia – all of them Wembley winners or losers – were honoured by the League Managers Association in a special ceremony.
