Helping Steve Assist An Old Pal

Friday, December 4: Enjoyed calling at the lovely house of Steve Daley in Codsall, although the man of the household was out. The purpose of the visit was to seek permission for Midlands-based author Simon Goodyear to call him for help with the Peter Withe autobiography he is helping write.

To the long list of 1950s Wolverhampton Wanderers greats, we are also thankfully able to come up with a second roll of honour. Bert Williams would definitely be on there, so too Malcolm Finlayson, Bill Slater and Dennis Wilshaw, and you would find places for Eddie Stuart, Jimmy Mullen, Ron Flowers and Peter Broadbent - grouped together as proprietors of town centre businesses.

Wolves found one unlikely scoring hero and overcame the expertise of another when they recorded a precious victory against tonight's opponents more than 35 years ago. Terry Connor, destined to become a Molineux coach many seasons later, used the visit of his beloved Leeds to the West Midlands on October 18, 1980, to plunder a headed goal after only 55 seconds.
