A Wolves Enclave By The Sea

Remember those two global and continental triumphs achieved by England age-group teams four years ago? Remember how they lifted our spirits hugely and raised hopes of success for the senior team in a tournament such as the one in which Gareth Southgate's side are aiming for a quarter-final place now?

Striker Hoping To Be Bursting With Pride

Iwan Roberts has described the prospect of a Welsh victory in Amsterdam today as the perfect present for his 53rd birthday. The former Wolves striker is a familiar voice - often in Welsh - on various BBC platforms but spoke the language more familiar to us when interviewed on air by breakfast TV presenter Sally Nugent this week.

Scottish Breakthrough Opened A Key Gateway

Wolves’ imprint on the Scotland side remains largely an all-or-nothing affair. For almost 100 years, the club had no-one in the senior international team north of the border – then came a rush of proven performers for the likes of Bobby Brown and Tommy Docherty to call on.

Special Sitting Honours Molineux's Greatest Leader

England games against Scotland popped up a lot more frequently in Stan Cullis's playing days. Two of his 12 full peace-time caps were gained in this oldest of international fixtures and his three outings for the Football League side came in a pre-war era in which he was able to savour victories over the Scottish League both in Glasgow and Wolverhampton.

Among those looking on at close quarters while a record number of Wolves players compete at this European Championship finals is a former Molineux man whose own international career did not scale such heights. Nathan Blake is an experienced figure at the microphone these days and is in Baku to summarise for the BBC at Wales' games against Switzerland on Saturday and Turkey on Wednesday.

Former Wolves Boss Is Done Roaming

Colin Lee turns 65 tomorrow and has retired. Or at least that status in life is how he has increasingly been seeing himself. "We've had 25 different places but this is us now," he said, from the home that offers a high and majestic look-out over the busiest stretch of Devon's holiday coast. "What we can say is that this is our retirement home.

'Super Guy' Who Raised Morale In Boer War Territory

Peter Russell's name has featured in our columns more than once over the years and we are happy to pay further tribute to the Gornal-born wing-half or centre-half who served Wolves from 1952 to 1956 and still lives in South Africa at the age of 86. Our new information has been received in various emails from the retired John Williams, who is in his mid-70s and living in Roodepoort, Johannesburg. We are happy to quote him at length on how the paths of the two men crossed.....and the impressions formed as a result.

Final Turns On A Long Road

Friday, May 9: Had some fun texting Rob Kelly as our paths crossed on the M5 this afternoon. We were driving north of Exeter after a break in Devon and wished him all the best for Barrow's final game of the season tomorrow at the 'other' St James's Park. Among his messages was a remark about how long the journey to the south-west was feeling.

Molineux History-Maker Calls Time

Confirmation of Conor Coady's selection for the European Championships came in timely fashion. Barely 24 hours earlier, another model pro requiring the lowest of maintenance - and the last Wolves player before the Liverpudlian to represent England at the top level - announced his retirement.
