Midlands 'Tour' Of Grocer-Keeper

A dispassionate assessment of the goalkeeper history of Wolverhampton Wanderers would most certainly identify Bert Williams as being the cream of the crop. Yet 'The Cat' was not immune to injury, even if he was most certainly never subject to demotion based on form.

We at Wolves Heroes were greatly saddened to hear of the passing-away of Paul Darby, the club's physio from 1986 to 1994. The 66-year-old had stayed a Wolves fan through several seasons of poor health as well as remaining as busy as possible in his chosen profession.

Dean's Gratitude Over Shirt That's Soaring In Value

Dean Edwards has secured the signature of his first football hero and is hoping to repay the favour - and more - in the coming months. The 60-year-old was delighted to add the autograph of Hugh Curran to the replica shirt that marks his early devotion to the Molineux cause.

Long-Distance Messaging Of Popular Duo

For two years, they were not only Wolves team-mates but role models and inspirations. They didn't manage to haul the club over the line and into the Premier League but no-one ever doubted for one minute that Ludovic Pollet and Neil Emblen did all they could in the pursuit of the holy grail.

Wolves Links In Popular Show

None of us should be surprised that Derek Dougan figured in the TV panel game that attracted football fans in big numbers more than half a century ago. Given that he was already a flambouyant character and became a major studio hit as a pundit around the time of the 1970 Mexico World Cup, The Doog was an easy choice when the search was on for players to put their general knowledge on the line and fill our screens.

Countdown On To Big Night

So how well did England get over those infamous defeats at the hands of tonight's latest overseas visitors to Molineux? Did Billy Wright and Co gain some revenge for the home and away 1950s hidings against the magical Magyars, or did other Wolves figures manage to help redress the balance?

Wolves Coach Has Much To Savour

We had a rare full-on sighting of him when Wolves drew at Chelsea last month and are set to see much more in the coming months. No-one could say Tony Roberts has been high-profile since his installation as goalkeeper coach at Molineux last summer but his stock must be as inflated as his spirits these days following the Player of the Year contribution of Jose Sa and Wayne Hennessey's on-going heroics with Wales.

England Out Of The Capital.....A Brief History

Neither Geoff Hurst nor England's other World Cup final goalscorer Martin Peters knew what it was like to play a senior international home game in the provinces. And coming more up to date, Steve Bull's car was always pointed down the M1 if he was selected to pull on the three lions in this country.

Lengthy Wolves Cast List At Forgotten Fixture

Nigel Sims, Ron Flowers, Harry Hooper, Billy Wright, Bill Slater, Eddie Clamp, Peter Broadbent, Johnny Kirkham, John Barnwell, Alan Hinton, Jimmy Melia, Bobby Thomson, Mike Bailey, Bob McNab and Bobby Gould have something in common apart from the obvious fact that they all played for or managed Wolves. They also turned out in the 1950s or 1960s in a long-discontinued fixture that used to be part of the English football calendar....one dreamt up as much as anything to give fans a secondary attraction when they poured into London for the FA Cup final.

How Major Monarchy Milestones Coincided With Wolves Events

We could not let this big Bank Holiday week go without a royal connection in our posts, so how about this link between big occasions in The Queen's life and distant historic dates on the Molineux calendar? We arrowed in on some of her momentous days of the past, decided to use names and titles the central characters became known by and saw what was happening at the same time much closer to home....
