A Highly Powerful XI!

Birthday Time – And We’re Still Going Strong

Paul Blades……subject of our ‘Cementing a Bright Future’ story.

As we at Wolves Heroes move proudly into our 12th year in cyberspace, it’s time for some reflections…..

When we set out on our journey of discovery at the start of August, 2008, the first two competitive games were away to Plymouth and at home to Accrington. How far the club have come!

Now, they have just followed up the lifting of the Asian Cup at the expense of Manchester City by winning their first three Europa Cup matches with a glut of goals and are preparing for the visit of Manchester United on the back of a useful away point.

We launched our enterprise with stories about Paul Blades prospering in the building trade, Phil Parkes meeting up at a Molineux dinner with his former Vancouver Whitecaps team-mate Bruce Grobbelaar and a breakthrough in our long search for Alun Evans in Australia.

There was also an extended feature on how many Wolves players of the 1990s were working in managing and coaching, a long interview with High McIlmoyle conducted at his home near Carlisle and, on a sadder note, our obituary of Mark Kendall, who had not long passed away.

All of our posted stories remain accessible to read or revisit – simply scroll down in the area you wish to peruse and you will see a section for every month in our 11 years to date.

So was August, 2008, a happy Molineux time? Yes, very much so in the sense that Mick McCarthy’s side set down a marker for what was to be a title-winning Championship season.

There have been plenty of fluctuations on the graph since then, though, with that and two other promotions, two relegations, seven changes of manager, a new stand, much-improved training ground facilities, a change of ownership, some more silverware and the return to major European competition.

Along the way, we at Wolves Heroes have underpinned our stated desire to inform, educate and hopefully entertain on all things gold, black and nostalgic by repeatedly using a retrospective twist to reflect present-day events.
