Monday, May 6: How many people remember Ki-Jana Hoever is a Wolves player? The 22-year-old defender has been on loan to Stoke for a season and a half and came up with three big goals in the last month and a bit of the season to help lead the club to Championship survival. Luke Cundle, very much in the same age bracket, scored twice late on also to take his tally for 2023-24 to seven, the first five of them coming when another temporary move from Molineux took him to Plymouth.
Thursday, May 9: Nice to report on a Wolves victory in the Regis Trophy golf event at Walmley, near Sutton Coldfield. The team of Colin Brazier, Kenny Hibbitt, Geoff Palmer and Steve Daley, with John Richards as non-playing support, improved considerably on their performance last year to beat their rivals from Albion and Villa in the three-club event.
Saturday, May 11: Brilliant to see Geoff Thomas this afternoon at Wolves’ final home game of the season and to have reconnected him with David Kelly at half-time of the clash with the midfielder’s former club, Crystal Palace. We also made sure he had exchanged greetings with Steve Bull and hope it’s not too long into the 2024-25 Premier League campaign before he pays his next visit to Molineux.
Monday, May 13: Sad to hear the news that Peter Broadbent’s widow, Shirley, had passed away. She had been a loyal attender of various Wolves events for many years and always had a ready smile and entertaining anecdote…like the revelation about George Best befriending the inside-forward on holiday in Majorca long ago and telling him he had been his favourite player when growing up in Belfast as a Wolves supporter.
Thursday, May 16: Good luck to Elliott Bennett for the next phase of his working life following the announcement near the of the League One season that his three-year career as a Shrewsbury player was drawing to a close this summer. The club did him proud with their publicity surrounding his recent 600th appearance as a professional, with 192 of those games having been played for the former Wolves youngster’s previous club, Blackburn.
Thursday, May 23: So Julen Lopetegui is back in the Premier League after being announced today as West Ham’s new manager on a two-year deal, with a further 12-month option. He and Wolves are in line for an early reunion as his new and old clubs are meeting in the United States in July.
Saturday, May 25: Now Robbie Keane, Mike Stowell and friends at Maccabi Tel Aviv can seriously celebrate. A title race that looked like being close-run a month or two ago eventually went very much in their favour, with their club winning again today to ensure they finished 11 points ahead of their closest rivals, Maccabi Haifa, last season’s champions. What an achievement….heartiest congratulations to them all!
Wednesday, May 29: Lovely words from Matt Forman after he played the first half for the Wolves All Stars team in their game at Molineux at the weekend – the day after his wife and children attended Manchester City’s triumphant bus parade. “It was fantastic to step out on the hallowed turf and take in that special atmosphere,” he wrote. “There have been so many changes since the last time I set foot on that pitch wearing the kit in 1988 (probably a reserve fixture). I had to wait 36 years for the privilege! Is there any ex-Wolves player that can beat that?” Matt also paid us an unnecessary comment by adding in his email: “If I hadn’t been in touch with Wolves Heroes a few years ago, I wouldn’t have gone to Bully’s 30th anniversary dinner (in 2016) and all this would not have been possible. I met Jason Guy that evening and I’ve been in touch ever since. So cheers for making it happen!”
