Wolves fans have become used to being brilliantly served by Backpass. Even by these high standards, though, the newly-published issue 60 is one not to be missed at Molineux.

Of particular interest to the gold and black fraternity will be the in-depth interview conducted with Phil Parkes by long-time former Daily Express sportswriter John Wragg.

Those who have met Lofty will know what great value is when spilling a few memories and this three-page feature, containing super pictures of him in action at Tottenham and Burnley, is right on the money.

Like some others, the keeper had what might at best be called a fractious relationship with Bill McGarry and gives further insight here into the chemistry of the dressing room of the early 1970s.

There is also a Heganism, a look back at the run to the 1971-72 UEFA Cup final and various highlights from Parkes’s highly successful time in the North American Soccer League.

The interview with boyhood Wanderers fan turned first-team left-winger Alan Hinton is written by David Harrison, the Express & Star’s Molineux correspondent for several seasons from the crisis year of 1982.

Hinton talks in this case of his time with Brian Clough at Derby but, in so doing, underlines an opinion of Stan Cullis that he has previously sounded.

Elsewhere in the 64 pages are an obituary of Ernie Hunt, a page feature homing in on Tommy Docherty the Aston Villa manager and a look at Norman Giller’s new book on Billy Wright.

Wolves Heroes’ David Instone has been a Backpass contributor since the first issue and has penned a nostalgic piece for this latest one on Walsall’s old Fellows Park ground.

Backpass costs £4.50 and will remain at that price for subscribers next year, its future having been underpinned in the last few months.
