In The Hunte For Milestone Man

Big Landmark Moves A Stage Closer

This seems as good a time as any to re-draw the attention of our readers to some of the ‘background’ areas of this website.

The debut of midfielder Connor Hunte in Wolves’ 2-1 home win over Bristol City took us a step closer to learning the identity of the 1,000th man to play League football for the club.

The 19-year-old former Chelsea boy became the 997th player to represent Wolves in the domestic competition when he went on as a late substitute for Nathan Byrne in midweek.

Although Kenny Jackett has now handed no fewer than 14 first-team debuts in 2015-16, it seems likely that the big milestone will be reached at the start of next season rather than in the closing weeks of this one. But watch this space!

Talking of the head coach, he is on course to move into the club’s managerial top ten with the season-closing home game against Sheffield Wednesday on May 7.

Kenny Jackett - heading towards a Wolves top ten.
Kenny Jackett – heading towards a Wolves top ten.

That is due to be his 150th League and cup match in charge of the club – a landmark that would take him alongside Ronnie Allen and leave only nine men ahead of him in terms of games overseen from the dug-out.

Currently in ninth place in the list is Mark McGhee, who was in the manager’s chair at Molineux for 159 matches.

We look forward also to adding members of the present-day squad to our Legends area, which contains the top 81 appearance makers in Wolves’ history.

The last of those is on the 202-game mark, which leaves the closest challenger from Jackett’s squad still the best part of a season’s worth of matches short.

That is Carl Ikeme, who has made 164 senior appearances for the club, with skipper Danny Batth 23 outings short of his keeper on 141.

And, finally, something the more eagle-eyed among you will already have noticed……

What we used to refer to our Ainscow to Zubar section has now been renamed ‘Afobe to Zyro’ in view of the fact that the last season or two has given us a new first name and a new last name in the long alphabetical list of the players Wolves have used over the decades.
