Reigning Champions!

Phil In The Best Of Nich

Wolves favourites were among the prizes when they renewed acquaintances with their friends from the Wrottesley Park par-three course yesterday.

For the 16th year, former Wolves players of different eras were invited to the club just off the A41 near Codsall for an 18-hole competition and buffet that also raises good money for Compton Hospice.

And Phil Nicholls, the early-1970s Molineux reserve who remains an excellent supporter of such events, was part of the winning quartet, with Terry Wharton in the foursome who finished second.

Phil’s decision to opt for shorts looked questionable when the warm sunshine gave way to heavy rain that caused all players to shelter towards the end of the round.

But he survived a soaking and a late slump in his own game to help his team to victory.

Colin Brazier was another to step forward during the presentation ceremony, having won the prize for a tee-shot closest to the flag on a nominated hole.

Others in the field were Phil Parkes, Gerry Taylor, John McAlle, Steve Daley, Mel Eves and Dale Rudge.

Brazier attended the Walsall v Peterborough League One game the previous afternoon and was pleased to have met up there with his long-time Saddlers central defensive partner Peter Hart, who is now a vicar.

Phl Nicholls……in familiar attire.

Wolves’ flying start under new management was another topic of eager conversation and more and more are seeing Nuno’s side as a decent bet for promotion. If you fancy a flutter on them, be sure to check out the latest football predictions and tips

Daley, who is due to welcome Geoff Palmer on to the pitch at half-time of tomorrow night’s Carabao Cup tie against Bristol Rovers, is highly encouraged by what he is seeing.

And Eves was well placed to offer an expert insight into the win against Nottingham Forest on Saturday, having been at the City Ground in his role as a BBC WM summariser alongside commentator Mike Taylor.

He is also due to perform the same duties at the matches against Sheffield United and Aston Villa in the coming weeks.
