Milestone Ahead For Midfielder

Skipper Ruben Neves is a few weeks away from moving into the top 50 appearance-makers in Wolves’ history.

The brilliant midfielder and play-maker has 237 matches for the club to his name following this afternoon’s game at Manchester City – a figure that has him alongside Norman Deeley and Jody Craddock on our list.

And he has a whole cluster of others in his sights who he should overtake in the spring, misfortunes and absences permitting.

Terry Wharton and 1920s keeper Noel George are the men currently in joint 50th place and Neves will go past them well before the end of the season if he remains fit and available.

He is currently in equal 54th spot, one behind Stephen Ward, with Eddie Clamp also just outside the top 50.

The Portuguese international is due to become the sixth member of the club’s top 50 to have launched their Molineux careers in the 21st century.

The others are his former team-mates, Conor Coady and Matt Doherty, David Edwards, Karl Henry and Richard Stearman.

Neves is having an outstanding season after being named captain after Coady’s departure to Everton in August.

He also considerably advanced his tally of Portuguese caps at the World Cup in Qatar.
