Talking The Talk

Darren Weighing Up His Options

Darren Ferguson on media duty.

Is another former Wolves player about to become a frequently heard voice in the commentary box and broadasting studio?

Judging by his impressive opening performance, there’s someone we might soon be hearing considerably more of – on one condition.

If we say that the individual in question is Darren Ferguson, our readers will probably work out that the ‘strings attached’ relate to whether or not he returns to management in the coming weeks or months,

We bumped into the Scot at the Hawthorns draw between Albion and Charlton a few weeks ago when he was on duty for talkSPORT.

He was at the microphone there and on the gantry alongside East Midlands-based Geoff Peters, apparently earning approval for his contribution.

That appearance came soon after the 1994-99 Molineux midfielder had featured in a radio airwaves setting other than live from a stadium.

He featured prominently in an hour of Sunday morning studo discussion time, with Manchester United’s early-season form the main topic of debate.

Ferguson Jnr, now 54, has been out of football since leaving Peterborough – remarkably for the fourth time – in the autumn of last year.

He has found himself linked on occasions with the head coach’s job at Salford – not surprising considering his and the owners’ Manchester United connections.

Ferguson prepares to take a throw during Wolves’ victory over Kristianstad in Sweden in the summer of 1994. The no 2 is Darren Simkin.

So any media work could be dependent on what calls to the dug-out he my receive. By coincidence, Peterborough sacked Luke Williams at the weekend and stand one place off the foot of League One….they couldn’t go for him again, could they?

Dave Edwards was lost to the media world, temporarily or otherwise, when he was added to Shrewsbury’s backroom team several months ago.

Other former Wolves men frequently heard in the broadcasting sector include Matt Jarvis, Matt Murray, Chris Iwelumo and long-serving Sky Sports co-commentator Don Goodman.
