90 Today! Many Happy Returns To Double League Title Winner
Celebration Time For Decorated Inside-Forward
An unexpected message from a football fan in Oxfordshire has given us a handy platform on which to express warm birthday wishes to one of the last surviving members of Wolves’ title-winning teams. Colin Booth, who played 13 League games in 1957-58 when Stan Cullis’s men reigned supreme and and an identical number (plus two in the FA Cup) when the Championship was retained 12 months later, turns 90 today.
A Seriously Happy Christmas
Festive Lift-Off Is Like No Other
It’s time for a big festive statement……namely, that Wolves have never achieved a Christmas turnaround like the one overseen in these last few days by Vitor Pereira. They have had bigger and better wins at this time of year than the ones against Leicester and Manchester United but the new head coach’s opening two matches feel truly historic as season-changing successes.
Wath A Story!
Christmas Book-ing For Legendary Nursery
An in-depth book about one of English football’s most famous nursery clubs is on the way in 2025. Wath Wanderers clearly have a place in more than only Wolves history because the project is being undertaken by the South Yorkshire researcher-and-writer team of Chris Brook and Ashley Ball.
Managed To Succeed
Influences Galore On Doc’s Long-Playing Record
With his 33rd birthday less than a month away, Matt Doherty has too little time left to contemplate overtaking Geoff Palmer’s massive Wolves appearance tally of 496. But he has already made another imprint on the club’s landscape following the latest mass upheaval in the dug-out.
After The Unveiling…..The Gratitude
More Recollections From Anniversary Celebrations
Now for a much more upbeat side-story from one of the gloomier weekends in Molineux’s recent past….Following the Friday-lunchtime unveiling of that spectacular Wolves-Honved sculpture history and the evocative subsequent words from John Lalley on this website, we are delighted to add further reflections on not one but two ceremonies.
Pride And Emotion At Striking New Addition
Molineux Mood Lifted By Magnificent Anniversary Touch
The name ‘Honved’ is inextricably linked with that of Wolves; synonymous and special, a glorious strand in the club’s history that continues to kindle a sense of pride and achievement. There were no trophies, no points at stake, the game was simply a ‘friendly’ but the significance of this fixture, decades on, remains profound. A striking and evocative sculpture, the work of local artist Luke Perry, now serves as a fitting tribute to a unique occasion.
RIP Norman Bodell
Sad News Of One-Time Wolves Coach
John Richards is helping circulate the announcement that early-1970s Molineux coach Norman Bodell has passed away at the age of 86. The Wolves Former Players Association chairman was contacted by the club with the news by email and is spreading the sad word, especially among those whose careers here crossed over with that of the Mancunian.
Jungle Drums Hit A Happy Note
McFly Memories Stirred For Froggy
Unaccustomed as we are to describing events that unfold on TV reality shows, we should not let the outcome in the Australian jungle a couple of days ago pass without recording that it was good news for one former Wolves player. One of our early stories on here more than a decade ago described how Steve Froggatt and David Kelly gave a team-mate a lift home from a 2007 charity cricket match in Cheshire – and only realised half-way through the journey that the quiet lad in the back was McFly drummer Harry Judd.
Medal Ceremony Looming
Kirkham ‘Treasures’ Heading For The Public Domain
Darrell Kirkham is the footballer’s offspring who just carries on giving. More than a decade ago, he fed us the astonishing story of how his dad, the former Wolves wing-half Johnny Kirkham, had put family differences to one side and come back to the UK to donate a kidney to him in his hour of great need.
Hungary For More
Well-Travelled Fan Still Filling In The Blanks
My interest in Hungarian football goes back to when we set up a small business sending people from the UK over there for dental treatment mo e than 20 years ago. My wife, Linda, and I visited the country every year and, over time, I developed a much greater appreciation of how the game over there in the 1950s was such a huge influence in shaping the sport.
