A football fanatic who gave up his job as a social worker to sell football memorabilia has a host of valuable Wolves souvenirs up for sale.
Brummie Danny Drewry, brought to the attention of Wolves Heroes by former Molineux and Aston Villa utility man Mark Burke, gave us a guided tour of the numerous display items he has on offer at Midlands Memorabilia.
And he is broadening his retail operation to take in a stall in Northfield Indoor Market a few miles to the south west of the city.
“I’m an absolute football nut myself and previously worked in exhibitions at the NEC and other locations, so I think I know what fans want,” he said.
“There has been some bad publicity about collectors who get players to sign things and then advertise them on ebay but my style is much more refined than that.
“I much prefer to work with the players in a relaxed, convivial atmosphere, so everyone’s happy, rather than take advantage of them at a game or event.
“I’m lucky to have good relationships with a lot of them, particularly those at Wolves and the other Midlands clubs, but also some further afield.”
Danny welcomes fans to the show-room at his home at Wishaw, near The Belfry golf course, and has a wall dedicated to Wolves.
Among his offerings are several relating to Steve Bull – a 1989 photo signed with a golden pen, a signed photo of the striker after he had scored twice for England against Czechoslovakia, an autographed caricature and a multi-signed limited edition Bully print commemorating his 20 years at the club as player and ambassador.
He also has a photo of the club’s 1949 FA Cup winning team that is signed by goalscorer Sammy Smyth, a signed Jody Craddock photo, framed signed mounts of Stan Cullis, John Richards, Andy Gray and Derek Dougan, plus various books, dvds and games.
“I have put my life savings into this and plan to open a shop eventually,” Danny added. “I certainly have enough stock already to do that but I’m concentrating on building things up gradually and making sure I can afford the rent first.”
He is contactable on 01675-470458/07882-644832 and by email at info@midlandsmemorabilia.com
