Look Hugh’s Back!
An Emotional Walk Down Memory Lane
Hugh McImoyle is relishing his first visit to Molineux for decades when Wolves face another of his former clubs tonight. The 1960s forward is a guest of the club at the Sky Bet Championship game against Bristol City and is due to be introduced to the crowd at half-time.
Gray Days And Other Dazzling Debuts
A Month In Which To Marvel
This is very much anniversary time for some of the more dramatic debuts there have been in Wolves’ forward line over the decades. It was on the second Saturday of September 38 years ago that the club shattered the British transfer record by signing Andy Gray on the Molineux pitch before a home game with Crystal Palace.
A Long Exile Ended
Shaw Plans Trip To See Wolves At The Lane
Wolves’ visit to Sheffield United this month is due to marked by a visit from a little-seen full-back who served both clubs. Bernard Shaw, who has not been to Molineux for several decades, has received a corporate invite to the clash despite confessing he has largely fallen out of love with watching the game.
Dear Diary Entry 71
A Physio Foursome
Wednesday, August 2: How curious it feels to have been talking in the last few days to no fewer than four men who have worked in the physiotherapy department at Wolves in the last 25 years! First it was by phone with Barry Holmes, then by text and email with Gavin Blackwell, who still helps out in the academy at Compton as well as switching this summer from being the regular physio at Hednesford to the same role at Halesowen.
Disappointment For Derek
On The Bench In Malta – And Sadly No Further
We have made the point several times before that any number of Wolves players might have won a dozen or two more international caps had they surfaced and peaked in another era. England’s World Cup qualifier away to Malta tomorrow brings to mind the closest Derek Parkin went to being honoured by his country at senior level – he was on the bench when Alf Ramsey’s team won unconvincingly on the sunshine island in a European Championship game in February, 1971.

‘Weighted’ Recount Reflects Well On Legendary Skipper
With the spotlight about to switch back to international football, we have decided to look once more at the subject of record caps figures. News of Wayne Rooney’s England retirement is still fresh in our minds, the forward having taken his decision to quit at the ultimate level not long after overtaking fellow Old Trafford legend Sir Bobby Charlton as England’s all-time highest goalscorer.
Passing-Away Of 1960s Keeper
Sad News Reaches Us
Alan Boswell, the Wednesbury-born keeper who played ten first-team games for Wolves in the late 1960s, has died at the age of 74. The boyhood Wanderers fan made more than 60 appearances for Walsall before going on to have over 220 League outings for Shrewsbury, the town where he settled, lived and worked for decades.
A Take On The Present
Reasons To Be Cheerful
Despite that defeat against Cardiff, Wolves have shown enough in their first four League games to suggest they will be at the top end of the Championship come the end of the campaign. The signs are that they will be pushing for one of the promotion spots to the Premier League – a feeling underlined by the Carabao Cup win at Southampton that was secured by goals from Danny Batth and Donovan Wilson.
Figuring It OutÂ
A Huge Gulf In Wolves Game Time
Identifying the most experienced side Wolverhampton Wanderers have ever fielded is a task we will put off for another day. But the rapidly changing face of teams in the modern age, not least at Molineux, prompted us to look at the 2017 Wolves and see how they compare statistically with their counterparts from 1957, 1977 and 1987. The results are quite astounding.

Touching Show Of Support For Stricken Star
Tickets are selling fast for a fund-raising evening this autumn in support of former Wolves winger Dave Thomas. Many of the ex-England international’s colleagues from his Molineux stay nearly 30 years ago are rallying to the cause by staging and turning out at a dinner at the Red Lion in Bobbington on Thursday, October 5 – the player’s 67th birthday.
