A ‘Tease’ In LA

Schmoozing With Rod And The Other Stars

If Wolves had not been in desperate financial straits in the early 1980s, things might have turned out very differently for John Teasdale. Instead, he has had to suck it up in later life by jogging at Newport Beach, shooting the breeze with Rod Stewart and dating a movie star. “Life is good” he tells me. One can see why – but one can also see that the Teasdale football career has been one of so near, and yet…

Big Names On Wergs Leader-Board

Super Turn-Out For Golf Day

From as far afield as Blackpool, Leicestershire and rural Gloucestershire, they gathered once more yesterday – for some competition, some teamwork in the name of charity and, above all, some more fun in each others’ company. The washing-out of the annual Wolves Former Players’ Golf Day a week earlier had a silver lining, even if it wasn’t immediately obvious to the supporter who drove from Torquay and was coming through Wednesbury when he received the ‘no play today’ call.

Barron Years In America

The Kids Are All Right – Jim

Jim Barron was in the shadow of Malcolm Finlayson and Fred Davies when Wolves went on their long 1963 tour of the United States and Canada a few months before the club handed him his Football League debut. He had then moved on to Chelsea and Oxford when they went back to win two lengthy tournaments in America towards the end of the decade and narrowly missed out on crossing the Atlantic with them when recruited by John Barnwell to Molineux just after the club played a one-off friendly in Jacksonville.

New Dates For The Diary

An Addition And A Change

Rain prevented any play at yesterday’s annual Wolves Former Players Golf Day – but there is only a short wait until the lads try again. For the second time in recent years, the summer competition was washed out without a ball being struck, so a rearrangement for this coming Friday (August 21) has already been made.

Action! How The Camera Rolled On 1967 Run-In

Resurfacing Of Obscure Away Days Film

An insight into the travelling habits of Wolves supporters almost half a century ago has come to light with the discovery of old footage buried away in the club’s store-rooms. Our eye was caught among a mountain of stand-by Molineux Museum items by a film called ‘Wolves: The Road To Promotion 1967’.

Away We Go – With Memories Aplenty

Hitting The Road And The Right Standard

It is three years ago this week since the passing-away of Jim Heath, a big friend and contributor to us at Wolves Heroes. In tribute to his successful 2011 Wolves In 20/20 Vision book, we adopt the same theme here by spotlighting 20 memorable first-day away days as a way of boosting confidence levels before Saturday’s Championship kick-off against Blackburn

Pride Of The Patch

Wolves Duo Featured Among Black Country Stars

Two good mates from the Molineux dressing room more than half a century ago have been recognised in a new book celebrating the feats of West Midlanders in the sporting arena. Ted Farmer and John Harris were among the packed turn-out at Saturday’s launch of ’57 Black Country Sportsmen’ – a tribute to men who have excelled in their chosen field either as players or administrators, or both.

Dear Diary Entry 46

New Season, New Jobs

Monday, July 6: Am indebted to Vince Bartram for updating me on a snippet of news that had passed me by – namely that our good friend Rob Kelly is back in work, this time as assistant head coach to Leeds. Made a mental note to send Rob, who turned 50 just before last Christmas, a good-luck text before the start of the season,

Pride Of The Clans

Fond Memories Of ‘Uncle Tommy’

Nothing pleases us more than to be approached by long-lost relatives or friends of Wolves favourites, especially those who are seeking our help in re-connecting them. We will be writing soon about just such an email that we have received out of the blue regarding a 1960s coach and we are happy in the meantime to share some memories of a football fan who got in touch with us to offer and seek information of a 1950s Molineux reserve from north of the border.
