Fans’ Chance To Book ‘An Evening With…..’

Jim McCalliog has scheduled another Molineux visit as part of the latest tour he has lined up of his former clubs.

This one-time golden boy of Scottish football was at Wolves’ home win over Southampton in early September and was planning to travel to the Saints’ clash with Arsenal this afternoon.

But the drop-in that most interests us is the ‘Evening With Jim McCalliog’ that takes place in the Stan Cullis Stand a fortnight on Friday.

Tickets cost £30 but the admission price includes a signed copy of the ‘Wembley Wins, Wembley Woes’ autobiography that he brought out just over a year ago.

“I am very grateful to the Wolves fans who have already bought copies of my book,” McCalliog said. “The response to it has been excellent and maybe those who have purchased it and want to come along to the evening have friends or family they are looking for a gift for.

“Wolves is the club where I spent more time than anywhere else in my career, so it has a special place in my affections. We had an exciting team in the early 1970s and did especially well in the cups.

“But it shouldn’t be forgotten that we also qualified for Europe a couple of times through our League placing. I had the extra thrill of being captain for both legs of the UEFA Cup final against Tottenham and, as I say on the flyer for the evening: ‘How fortunate was I?'”

McCalliog will be joined by various Molineux team-mates for the November 11 event in the WV1 bar.

He is in for a busy week as he also hosts an evening at Southampton on the previous Tuesday and is making plans for a return visit to Sheffield Wednesday.

Before or after his 210 Wolves first-team appearances from 1969 to 1974, he scored FA Cup final and semi-final goals for Wednesday, made the Saints’ winner in the 1976 final against his previous club Manchester United and hit what proved to be the winner for Scotland in their 1967 triumph over World Cup holders England at Wembley.
