Don To Hit Book Shelves

Don Goodman is to become the latest former Wolves player to commit his life story to print.

The popular long-time forward is currently working with journalist Brian Beard on a book that is due out this year.

The 44-year-old has been a big success in his post-playing seasons, primarily as a summariser for Sky Sports.

His articulate, engaging style has also brought him work on BBC Radio 5 Live and he is a match-day regular on the broadcasters’ gantry as well as still writing a column in Wolves’ programme.

Goodman moved to Molineux from Sunderland in December, 1994, on the same day that John de Wolf’s capture from Feyenoord underlined a period of high spending at the club.

He made 154 first-team appearances for Wolves and scored 39 goals before being freed by Mark McGhee and going on to serve Hiroshima, Barnsley, Motherwell, Walsall, Exeter and Doncaster.

A late FA Cup quarter-final winner in 1998 away to his home city club Leeds was the highlight of his Wolves stay, although the anniversary of another of his favourite deeds has just passed.

It was 16 years ago yesterday that Goodman scored the decisive penalty in Wolves’ FA Cup conquest of Sheffield Wednesday – a fourth-round replay in which Graham Taylor’s side hit back from three down to go through.
