Death Of Dave Woodfield Announced

David Woodfield, the hard-man former Wolves centre-half, has died at the age of 81.

Word of his passing last night has reached the club’s Former Players Association today thanks to his son, Gary.

‘Duggie’ had been ill for several years and had an operation for bowel cancer but managed a farewell to Molineux when he visited with several members of his family for the home game against Chelsea in September, 2019.

We also interviewed him when he attended a Championship home victory over Villa two and a half years earlier during the Paul Lambert era.

Prior to that, we had often had to rely on his brother, Paul, for information while Dave worked and lived in distant parts of the world for several decades.

Leamington-born, the defender made 276 League and cup appearances for Wolves after signing in 1959 and was granted a testimonial in honour of his long service. He eventually departed by joining Watford.

We will be telling the Woodfield story at much greater length in the coming week or two and, in the meantime, send our deepest condolences to Gary, Paul and the rest of the family.
