Busy Time on Signing Circuit

Peter Withe is still hoping to add at least one Wolverhampton date to the hectic schedule that has come with the release of his autobiography.

The feelers have been put out both at Molineux and in the city centre with Waterstone’s as the striker continues apace on the promotional trail.

“I know some players who have brought books out and then been happy to leave the publishers to get on with it,” he said. “But I have enjoyed getting out there.

“We have kept some control of the whole project as my son has been promoting it and I’m pleased with the way it has all gone since the book was published in the winter.

“There have been plenty of signing dates, such as in Solihull, Sutton, Stourbridge and Nottingham, and requests have come in from further afield like Gloucester, Berkshire, London and even America.

“I have done a few radio interviews on top of all that, of course, and had the lovely surprise of learning that I and other League winners and European Cup winners have boxes named after us at Nottingham Forest.”

While not yet able to announce any signing dates in Wolverhampton, Withe, whose All For The Love Of The Game book has been reprinted since we wrote about it at length in early December, has had at least some dealings with the club who launched his English career.

He was at the Birmingham v Wolves game a few weeks before Christmas and has also crossed paths with various personnel with whom he is highly familiar.

“I have seen Robert Plant twice this season and met up as well with Steve Daley, Phil Parkes and Mel Eves. And I have spoken on the phone to Barry Powell about something at the other club we played together for, Portland Timbers.

“I hope that is not the end of it because these are obviously very happy times at Molineux and I would like to be back there soon.

“I have a number of things still to do during this visit from home in Australia and will probably be here until after the start of the new season, so that offers some possibilities.”

Withe was at the Grosvenor House Hotel to see Nuno receive his Championship Manager of the Year award and had hoped for an extra celebration last Saturday – the 36th anniversary of the Villa v Bayern Munich European Cup final that he decided with a tap-in second-half goal.

Alas, he was to be disappointed when he joined Tony Morley, Ken McNaught, Des Bremner and other team-mates at Villa’s play-off final defeat against Fulham at Wembley.
