For a man who played only one competitive game in their first team, Jimmy Seal has plenty of lovely things to say about Wolverhampton Wanderers. A goal-less outing at West Ham may not seem much to show for the best part of five years' toil at Molineux but the Yorkshireman has nothing but fond memories of his time there.

Wolves Eclipsed By Surprise New Champions

Wolves' reign as Masters kings was ended last night by Tranmere Rovers, the side who have succeeded them as national champions. A 2-1 defeat at the semi-final stage of grand finals evening at Liverpool's Echo Arena broke their grip on the trophy after they had started brilliantly with a 6-1 trouncing of 2006 and 2007 winners Leicester.

Champions Stick With Heroic 'Wildcard'

Wolves will again be leaning on their stand-in keeper Andy de Bont for their defence of the Screwfix Masters football title in Liverpool this weekend. The Sedgley-based former Molineux reserve was called upon as a late replacement for the Midlands tournament at the NIA in June and was outstanding as Wolves emerged victorious from a group also containing Albion, Birmingham and a star-studded Aston Villa.

Bert Williams will be among the VIPs at England's home friendly against Slovenia on Saturday. He has been invited to the new Wembley for the first time as part of an initiative involving team sponsors Nationwide and joked: "I just wish I was playing, not watching."

Kiwi Coach Stirs National Fervour

Ricki Herbert has already helped create his fair share of football records and history. Now he's the mouthpiece for another attempt. In his role as New Zealand manager, the former Wolves defender is helping whip up interest for his country's forthcoming World Cup play-off game in Wellington by fronting an advertising campaign aimed at selling tickets for the home leg against Bahrain or Saudi Arabia on November 14.
