A Weekend With The Richardses
Billy On His Way Back
Billy Rafferty is relishing the thought of his impending return to Molineux – and looking forward to meeting the mates who helped make his stay a happy one. The burly striker turns 65 in December and is savouring the prospect of chatting over old times when he attends the Daventry Wolves Supporters Club 40th anniversary dinner next weekend.
California Dreamin’
Tommy Rocking On
It must have taken great courage and belief to walk away from a productive goal-scoring career in Ireland and Scotland to sign for a club yet to play a game. That is exactly what Tommy Stewart did when he joined the brand new Sacramento Republic in the summer of 2014.
Shaping Up As Promotion Challengers
Are Wolves Finding Their Feet?
After a rather mish-mash start to the season, Wolves look to have finally found their feet a little – with two convincing performances under their belts in the last two games. Now they have the chance to get themselves back into the play-off places when the Championship programme resumes. International breaks can be a bit of a nuisance and surely Kenny Jackett would have thrived on trying to continue the form the club were in going into the break.
Now Bailey Hits The Shelves
Inspirational Captain Tells His Story
Wolves fans are being offered another invaluable ‘take’ from the inside on the club’s late 1960s resurgence and their thrilling take-off as a major force early in the following decade. As a follow-up to the Dave Wagstaffe and Frank Munro stories that have been published in the last few years, skipper Mike Bailey is now busy putting pen to paper.
Fans’ Day Of Pure Nostalgia
An Afternoon To Be Remembered
Molineux was a happy place for the latest step in Wolves’ autumn improvement……even for one fan who was hoping for a Huddersfield victory. Among the 18,166 crowd for Saturday’s second successive 3-0 victory were an overseas-based Wolves supporter who hadn’t been to the ground for more than 44 years and the daughter of a late Wanderers goalkeeper who has lived for nearly all of her life in Yorkshire.
A Warm Welcome ‘Home’
Reception Committee For Exiled Irishman
We were delighted to team up with Wolves in giving Maurice Daly a day to remember on the occasion of his first visit to Molineux for more than 35 years. We made sure we were in attendance to welcome the Dubliner back to the ground where he made his name as a left-sided full-back and winger in the second half of the 1970s.
Dear Diary Entry 48
A Month With A Sad Start And Finish
Tuesday, September 1: Was interviewed on BBC WM after the death was announced of Billy Wright’s widow Joy Beverley at the age of 91. I didn’t know her well but recall those Beverley Sisters choruses on special Molineux occasions around two decades ago and always found her patient and courteous
Mama Mia, A Greek Wedding!
Daleys On Tour For Happy Event
Steve Daley didn’t make it on to centre stage during either of Wolves’ two visits to Greece. And he was happy to remain on the fringes again now during an early-autumn follow-up visit to the country. The long-time Molineux midfielder and various members of his family have recently touched down on home soil from Rhodes, where they spent seven days celebrating their son Ryan’s wedding.
Sad News From Australia
Promotion-Winning Defender Passes Away
Joe Wilson, the popular Wolves full-back of the mid-1960s, has died in Australia at the age of 78. The news was brought to us by the Cumberland Echo, who have been eulogising about his lofty standing among the legends of Workington – not surprising as he made 347 first-team appearances for his home-town club.
The Boys Dun Well!
Birthday Bash With An All-Star Cast
A rare array of Molineux personnel, past and present, are to amass next month to celebrate a landmark in the life of the most eccentrically named of Wolves’ many supporter clubs. Forty years ago this autumn, three men in a pub towards the south-east edge of the Midlands decided to set up an organisation that has subsequently had the players round for Sunday lunch, persuaded Mike Bailey to referee one of their inter-club matches and hauled in members as far spread as Norfolk, Brighton and Sheffield.
