Loan Star Hoevering Up The Goals

Monday, May 6: How many people remember Ki-Jana Hoever is a Wolves player? The 22-year-old defender has been on loan to Stoke for a season and a half and came up with three big goals in the last month and a bit of the season to help lead the club to Championship survival. Luke Cundle, very much in the same age bracket, scored twice late on also to take his tally for 2023-24 to seven.

Hells Bellers!

Happy To Be Proved Wrong Over Surprise Emergence

Did Gary Bellamy ever look round the Molineux dressing room 30-odd years ago and wonder which of his Wolves team-mates might one day make good managers? If he did, he might have thought Alistair Robertson had the experience and fierce determination to lead as powerfully from the sidelines as he did when leading the team out.

Coastal Connections

Tales From Across The Border

What links three goalkeepers, two policemen, a million pound footballer and a one-time favourite seaside retreat for Black Country folk? That would be Rhyl. Let us turn first, though, to Peter Owen. He was the keeper in Wolves’ first FA Youth Cup final appearance, back in 1953.

Season 2023-24 – Some Reflections

Not Such A Level Playing Field

When Wolves overhauled Albion and won the League title for the first time 70 years ago, they lost ten times in 42 First Division games. Manchester City and Arsenal, the top two in this season’s thrilling race at the top, have suffered eight defeats between them in 76 matches.

Uncatchable And Celebrating – With Two Games To Play

Mike Stowell – this time alongside Robbie Keane – has become a title winner for the second time. Their club, Maccabi Tel Aviv, secured Israel’s premier division crown last night with their 3-0 home victory over Hapoel Beersheva.

The Final Word

Magical Memories 50 Years On

And now, it probably IS all over. Fifty years and two and a half months on, the League Cup celebrations are done. The last of the various 2024 occasions marking the big anniversary of the epic Wembley victory over Manchester City has been played out in front of more than 800 nostalgia-fuelled fans at the city’s Grand Theatre.

Meeting On An Irregular Cycle

Marquee Signings In Molineux Catch-Up Geoff Thomas has used his latest Molineux return to have another catch-up with David Kelly – but might hesitate to engage him in the spectacular fund-raising events for which he has become renowned. It’s not long since the pair were together at a Cure Leukaemia charity dinner in Solihull at […]

Food For Thought

Differing Targets For Full-Back Pair

An interesting double-edged ‘sword’ has surfaced for the last two games of Wolves’ Premier League season. On the one side is the question of whether the 32-year-old Matt Doherty will be given the chance to use the fixtures against Crystal Palace and Liverpool to force his way into the club’s top 25 appearance-makers of all time.

Made In Wolverhampton, Steeped In Success

Outstanding Memories Of Managerial Legend

He tried to sign Steve Bull and Don Goodman, made Bob Hazell his club’s first black captain and even worked closely with a former Wolves club secretary. Well, with John Rudge’s roots and longevity in the game, there was every chance of some cross-over with the club of his young dreams.

Price Is Right In Shropshire

Tuesday, April 2: Interesting to note that Jack Price is back in these parts after his time at Colorado Rapids – with Shrewsbury, to be precise. His first two games have even been marked by an appearance on the score-sheet, in a draw against Oxford. Can we assume he will be watching a game at Molineux soon, as he has been inclined to do when in the Midlands in recent years?
